Welcome to SMC New Routes and Topos

This site includes all new route descriptions, notes and comments that have been published in the SMC Journal since the most recent definitive SMC guidebook (series 2001 – 2018). Topos submitted along with new routes are also increasingly being included. Over 10,000 routes can be viewed on any phone, tablet or computer that has an internet connection. The content of this site is updated regularly, enabling rapid dissemination of new route reports.

New routes are recorded in the annual Scottish Mountaineering Club Journal and are stored in a database which contains cover 41,000 routes on 7,000 crags across Scotland. The route count increases daily as climbers discover and record new climbs.

When the Scottish Mountaineering Club was founded in 1889 it set out to ‘collect information regarding [Scottish] routes and to maintain comprehensive coverage and a historical record’. Please help us maintain this 130-year-old remit by recording your new climbs here.
