The Scottish Mountaineering Trust

The SMC has a long history of providing support to the broad community of Scottish mountaineers, and in 1962 we set up the Scottish Mountaineering Trust. It was a way of channelling profits from our growing guidebook sales back into Scottish mountaineering. The Trust went from strength to strength, and in the past 30 years has donated £1.6 million to good causes that include mountain training, mountain rescue, path repairs and mountain huts. Nowadays it raises a growing part of its income from donations and bequests from generous supporters.

The SMT is a charity registered in Scotland. The Club nominates its trustees, while receiving support from the Trust for aspects of its work that benefit all mountaineers -- such as investment in its own mountain huts, and the recording of new climbs,
