Munro Compleatists

Those who complete (compleat!) the Munros can record this fact and receive the magic number by writing in to The Clerk of The List (See here). Additionally, a list of current compleaters is published annually in the SMC Journal.

Beinn na Lap - 18 August 2012

Pictured with Colin in the front row are his wife, Joanne, and their two girls, Eilidh (5) and Sky (3), with various friends in the background.

Colin writes:
Having decided to keep Beinn na Lap as my last one on this round we spent a fantastic weekend at Loch Ossian hostel and duly climbed Beinn na Lap on 18th August 2012 - just a week short of being 21 years since I finished my first round on 25th August 1991. My brother Derek, Ewen MacNiven & big Jim (Convery) had the dubious pleasure of being the only people to accompany me on both occasions! However, being post kids this one was somewhat different to the last and saw 12 under 10s join 15 adults on the summit. When counting only those ascended under their own steam as proper ascents we can possibly claim a new record with 10 people climbing their first Munro that day and a further three getting carried at least part of the way up.

Perhaps fortunately I had few epics along the way although a long hop / hobble off Ben Vorlich with a damaged ankle after a slip on ice near the top of the Little Hills sent me over a small crag was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Most days were however much more entertaining and included approaches to various summits by foot, bike, rock climbs, winter climbs, ski tours and even sea kayak. Between the two rounds and with various additional repeat ascents I think Iíve now had a view from every Munro summit with the exception of Stob Binnein, Beinn Sgulaird, Ladhar Bheinn and Mullís Ben More so no prizes for guessing the top four on my current to do list. Views from some were however harder to achieve than others Ė Sgurr Mor in the Fannaichs needed 5 ascents before I got a summit view but ironically a 7th ascent of it on skis in the clear frosty weather and heavy snow cover of January 2011 now ranks as one of my best days ever!
