Munro Compleatists

Those who complete (compleat!) the Munros can record this fact and receive the magic number by writing in to The Clerk of The List (See here). Additionally, a list of current compleaters is published annually in the SMC Journal.
Michael R. Bird - 5499
Ben More (Isle of Mull) - 25 May 2014

Also in the picture are Michaels's wife, Eleanor, and son, Jefferson.

Michael writes:
My first Munro was Ben Nevis, climbed in August 1986 with my school friend, Mark Dando. A trip with Cambridge University Walking Club in 1989 took me to Kintail & Glencoe. Living in the south of England, I managed a week-long trip or two per year most years, initially with walking companions, Stuart Newman (1990s) and Rob Walker (early 2000s), but in the last decade almost exclusively by myself I found the self-reliance and flexibility this gave me to be fulfilling (staying mainly in Youth Hostels, I could still enjoy the company of others at the end of the day and compare routes etc).

In recent years I often took my mountain bike along for the longer tracks. Increasingly I enjoy the whole mountain environment, especially the geology, mountain flowers and birdlife.

Compleating on Ben More as part of a week on Mull with my family with fantastic May weather was very memorable. Jeff (aged 7) climbed his first Munro but insisted it was also his last I hope he changes his mind! In future I hope to visit more Hebridean islands, combining cycling and walking.
