Munro Compleatists

Those who complete (compleat!) the Munros can record this fact and receive the magic number by writing in to The Clerk of The List (See here). Additionally, a list of current compleaters is published annually in the SMC Journal.

David writes:

Below are a few milestones on my journey to completion:
  • 1st Munro: Beinn Teallach, 29/07/2001 (on a family holiday, aged 16)
Then slow progress until my:
  • 4th Munro: Beinn Alligin Sgurr Mhor, 02/07/2007 (after graduation, aged 22)
  • 100th Munro: Lochnagar Cac Carn Beag, 24/05/2009
  • 141st Munro: Sgurr Fhuar-thuill, 29/05/2010
  • 200th Munro: Carn Mairg, 27/04/2011
  • 282nd and final Munro: Schiehallion, 26/05/2013 (aged 28)

Its hard to choose a single favourite hill but I have particularly fond memories of Sgurr na Ciche (the undoubted highlight of a five-day backpacking expedition into Knoydart from Loch Quoich), Ben Alder (which Ive climbed twice, both times with a cloud inversion!) and An Teallach (for the fabulous scenery). Particular thanks are due to my sister, Ruth, who accompanied me on 168 of the ascents, and is not far away from completion herself.

My next projects in the Highlands will be to finish off my remaining Munro Tops (157 climbed so far) and Corbetts (44 climbed so far). That should keep me busy for a few more years!
