Those who complete (compleat!) the Munros can record this fact and receive the magic number by writing in to The Clerk of The List (See here). Additionally, a list of current compleaters is published annually in the SMC Journal.
Dave Palmer - 5155
Ben More (Mull) - 9 September 2012
My love of the outdoors, the big hills and wild places started back in 1955 when as five 16-year-olds we ventured forth in the care of a friend Keith (a Scout) to the Cairngorms.
'We' were five sixteen-year-old London lads enjoying an adventure which instilled a love of the mountains and Scotland which still exists today. Family commitment occupied more than 30 years. Then in '91 we moved to Stranraer where lady luck shined on me and I joined a beautiful group of people walking the hills of Galloway every Sunday. Enjoying several trips a year into the bigger hills - the number Munros climbed mounted, even so "ticking off" the hills on Munro's List was never the intention - we loved walking anywhere.
But alas, the passing years concentrates the mind - and despite having been on Listed Munros over 300 times I still hadn't completed the List - so some time last year, with only 14 to do, I thought I'd like to close this chapter before advancing decrepitude finally made it impossible.
The final summit - Ben More on Mull - was 'compleated' with my dearest friend and partner Ailsa (Ace) and 'Harry' our Patterdale on 9th September 2012.
