Munro Compleatists

Those who complete (compleat!) the Munros can record this fact and receive the magic number by writing in to The Clerk of The List (See here). Additionally, a list of current compleaters is published annually in the SMC Journal.

Donald writes: I compleated my final Munro by climbing Blaven on Skye in glorious conditions with some of the best views I have had in recent times during my climbing trips, great way to top out as my picture shows with the Cullins in the background.

I have been in no rush to compleat (spell-check hates compleat!!) having climbed my first Munro (Schiehallion) as a Scout in 1975 aged 13, a hill I have climbed many times since. I have, as you will have gathered, preferred to take my time over covering all of the hills and only started counting them in the early 80's when I learned what a Munro was and realised that I had climbed a couple of dozen of them already!
When I started there were 277 recognised Munros, then it went up to 284 requiring further trips to Torridon and Glencoe (good excuse to return!!) and now I see the number is down to 283, if it was ever a Munro I have now climbed it. I never thought mountains could be moving targets!
I for sometime have been keeping Blaven back to be my final Munro and at the age of 48 you could say I have taken 35 years to compleat. I now plan to accompany my brother John to finish the Munros, he has now done 230 and then to do all of the ones I never saw first time round due to mist, rain, fog snow etc!
I have enclosed a photo of John and I on Blaven yesterday, I am on the right.
